The Light of Jinak School

The children of Jinak Island need your help. Jinak is a small island in a nature reserve at the border between Senegal and Gambia. It lies in between beautiful tidal mangroves on one side and the river mouth of the river Gambia in the Eastern Tropical Atlantic Ocean. Its children have French and English secular primary schools to go to in the morning.
However, before we opened Al Jinak un-Noor, there was no Quran school for the 300 children. Now, since 2005, we have built and have been running this school on our own funds. There are not enough resources for the children to properly learn in a suitable environment. They sit on thin mats on a concrete floor and there are no books, no pen and paper and no Qurans to read from. The Ustads use chalk and board to teach the children and they repeat verbally the Arabic phrases and learn their interpretations in local languages.
