Dar Sabon

My name is Agne. I discovered Morocco 9 years ago, while traveling around Europe. It was my first time out of Lithuania (that's where I am originally from) so to visit a country like Morocco was something very unusual. It wasn't exactly love at first sight. In fact, it took me a good week of traveling from city to city from village to village before I warmed to this mad land. Keep in mind that 9 years ago it was not as popular tourist destination as it is now. Every day disappointed, harassed, pointed at and even tried to be bought and traded for 12 camels and a piece of land (my friend was quite tempted to accept the offer), I'd had enough. I just wanted to leave and never come back. Essaouira was the last try... I am not exactly sure what happened then but from the moment I put my backpack on Essaouira's land my life changed. It was the same country I disliked so much but the wind in my ears, the clear blue sky, the horizon of the ocean, the smell of fish, wood and salt left a huge mark in my heart. So here I am, 9 years later trying to settle in this wild yet colorful place. This untouched land full of the unexpected. A land of dreams, my dreams.
Why Essaouira? A lot of people ask me. To be honest, I keep asking myself the same question. I am Lithuanian who lived in England 7 years and I ended up in Morocco. Why? The only answer I can think of is - the freedom. The freedom to be who you are, to do what you want, to feel the wind in your hair, to hear the seagulls, to wake up and see a clear blue sky, to have the sunshine every day and most importantly - to share the love for this beautiful country with the others, just as the locals share it with me. What can be a better way to do that than have a little bed&breakfast? No, it is not set up as a business. That was not my aim, it is set up as a house where everyone is more than welcome. Where I can share my knowledge, my experience. Where I can answer all your questions, help you to have a great time and most importantly - share my love for this beautiful city. Essaouira is my home. Dar Sabon is yours.
